Week 9

Our Digital week started on Monday with our Nobot video presentations. Jouni and Saara from Nobot oy was there too as the jury. They picked few of their favorite videos and the team that came first got an award. The subjects for the videos were different chapters of Jounis book.
We made our video as an animation. There is a few different websites where you can easily made an animation on your own in example animaker and powtoon, if I remenber correctly we used powtoon. Powtoon is really easy to use you just have to sign up and then you can start making your own video. You don't even need to drawn anything there is different kind of backgrounds and characters you can choose from. You basically just pick the characters and everything else you wan't to use in your video and put them on  a timeline. There is options ready what the characters do and then you can add your own texts and everything.
Our video wasn't one of the best  but it was fun to make and to learn how to use these free animation sites.

On Monday we had another visitor. Mazda presented themselves and gave us task to create a marketing campaign for Mazda 2. Unfortunately I had to leave while they were still talking because I had a dentist appointment. I would have much rather been listening about our new assignment from such a big company than sitting in a chair at the dentist.

We had only a few days to complete the Mazda assignment which was a bit of a shame. It would have been nice to think a marketing campaign for such a big company for a bit longer. Our idea wasn't really a digital campaign but they liked it anyway.

On Thursday we presented our Mazda presentations and we had a freelancer talking about video editing. That wasn't really a thing that interests me but it was good to learn something new.

Week 8

On week eight we had a so called "law week". Marjaana Marmo talked us about the differences between consumer protection law and commercial law.

We had a couple of juridical task to do this week

For me this week was an easy week, because I did these same task on the first time I attended this course. It was interesting to learn the differences between the commercial law and the consumer protection law and to learn whether you apply the commercial law or the consumer protection law.

On thursday Anna kept a short presentation about "the secret of life".

Anna showed us a book called THE SECRET, which has changed her life for good and definately for better as she said. In that book everything is explained, at first you have to ask from the universe what you want by sending good thoughts about your desires, then you have to start believing that in the end you will get it/them, and finally after that universe will send it to you.
I personally didn't really get how this is related to this course. I also don't personally think it works like that probably due to the fact that I have suffered from depression for years and it's not that easy. If someone had said that to me when I was in the hospital due to depression I would have been pretty mad. But for her it probably works and that's good for her. I wish I was more positive person like that.

Week 7

First of all I would like to apologize that my blogposts are SOOO late. I've had a lot on my mind and it hasn't been the easiest year for me. I really hope that you will still accept this post even though I have missed the deadline really badly. I don't want to take this course for the third time and I really hope I don't have to. But now for the actual post.

In week seven there was a two guest lecturers Jouni from Nobot and Joanna from MMA.
On Friday we got a new task from Nobot Oy. Juha Varpelaide the writer of the Terveen yrityksen työkirja is the owner of Nobot Oy. Our task was to pick a chapter from the book and make a video about it.

On Friday we also had a guest speaker. Joanna Purosto has graduated from Laurea in 2014. She was talking about marketing and things she would have wanted to know while she was studying. The things she talked about were networking, digitalization and how to sell. We have talked a lot of networking and digitalization and I think these are very important things but the third one, selling, surprised me. Joanna gave us very nice examples how difficult selling really is. There are so many things you have to remember while selling something like you have to “go to the client´s mind and control it”. Joanna showed us an example of mind controlling with a deck of cards. She also talked about asking the right questions to get the information you needed. Unfortunately I had to leave early to go to a  dentist and I missed some of Joanna's lecture. Joanna actually happens to be the daughter of my mothers friend and we've been together in Paris when I was like 11.

This post is pretty much about the Fridays lecture because I wasn't present on the other lecture.

Week 4

Oops I think the culture lecture was on this week but I wrote about it in the week 2 because it was the on the fall course, and I used my old post as a base on what I am writing now. I also had a lot of things to do so I wrote a few weeks posts on the same day. So these are bit late.

I wasn't able to be on the superpark lecture, but on that lecture there was a person talking about a activity park called superpark. We were also given an assignment concerning that.  We need to film a video for them to use in their social media marketing and think how they can be present and visible in the social media.

We went to the Superpark on Tuesday to film our video which will later be found in this blog. It was a lot of fun to play around there and get to know what kind of place it is. It was a great experience since I have never been in a park like that, it was fun to goof around while filming the actual video. It took us about two hours to film the whole thing but we still have a lot of editing to do.

Week 3

This week we were given an assignment to think what a company called Jakelujuniorit could also do in addition what they are already doing. We did a group work on the subject,Unfortunately I couldn't attend in either of the classes this week so I don't really have anything to write about.

Week 2 again

On the first lecture of the week we learned about different cultures and how to adjustment your marketing in different countries and cultures. We learned what we need to take in to account when planning a marketing campaign in a different culture than ours, in example you need to think do they have different religion and how do their customs differ from ours. You also need to be very careful about your translations so you don't cause misunderstandings. We also talked about what kind of cultural things you need to acknowledge when going to a business meeting abroad so you don't insult your business partners by accident. So before doing business abroad get to know their culture so you know should you be on time, how much small talk you do before starting, do you get right in to business and how formal the meetings are there. So basically the most important thing when communicating in a world of diversity is be able to relate effectively to people
from different cultural backgrounds and culturally diverse customer base. After the lecture we we're given an assignment to think about how would this company called lacy box do in Finland and what they could do differently in their marketing to succeed in Finnish markets. We also had a second group assignment where we did a PowerPoint presentation on culture of our choosing.
The second lecture of the week was mostly different groups presenting their groups work. We heard in example about Luxembourg business culture as well as Spanish business cultures. Those presentations showed how different cultures actually differ from others using different everyday business situations as examples. It was actually very interesting and might be useful in the future if I ever get to work overseas.

We also had a personal assignments for everybody to tell about our cultural baggage. Our cultural baggage is the collection of all the values, beliefs, concepts, and behaviors that we learned
as a child and that will have a great effect on the way we see the world.

Week 2

This week we talked about personal branding and marketing communication. We didn't have a group assignment this week, but instead everyone had to make a individual video. In the video we had to give a pitch and convince somebody to give us the job that we wanted. I wasn't that exited about the pitch thing because I don't feel very comfortable in front of a camera and don't know what should I say. I have never been that great at talking about my own strengths and "sell" myself to somebody.
In the lecture about personal branding we were also informed what are all the things that are part of our brand. In example in work life our brand includes the work that we have done and our social media and everything you can find on the internet that revolves to us.

Personal brand is what people say about you when you leave the room.
                        - Jeff Bezos, founder, Amazon.com

In the marketing communication we discussed about in example what are the channels you can use in communication and what channel is suitable for which message. We also talked about what kind of message gets people attention and how they will remember it. In marketing communications it is also important that the message is interpret in the right way.

We were also given a task to think what is the future of learning. In my mind teaching in the future will be more and more digital, in example they think about teaching coding in elementary school. There will be less courses where you actually have to go to school and more doing them in the internet. I also believe that if you don't have to be present at the lecture there will be more absent students. So it will be extremely important to have good teachers who are good lecturers and enthusiast about their fields, that will motivate the students to attend when they feel they can actually get something out of coming to the lecture instead of just reading the slides online afterwards.
